Sunday Night Supper

Nick cooked again, and as per usual, it was delicious. We feasted on a perfectly barbequed pork tenderloin, baked potatoes, coleslaw and mushrooms (on Nick's plate only) My only contribution to the meal was scooping the cookies and cream ice cream from the box into the bowls....and I didnt even screw it up. Hooray!

You Say Tomato, I Say Tomato...

Last Wednesday, I bought the cutest little indoor plant from Smart Flowers. Im going to try to grow my very first tomato plant. I was instantly sold on the cute little box, and the super awesome price.($12.00 less my discount) Inside I found a waterproof pot, tomato seeds and a compact soil disc that expanded when I added warm water. I planted it last Wednesday, and took a picture that day. According to the instructions, germination takes 7-10 days...so I'll keep you posted on how it turns out!

Sunday Night Suppers

Starting not too long ago, Nick and I decided that on Sunday afternoons we would go to the grocery store, pick something at random and cook it for supper. We decided we would try things we've never tried before, and cook mostly everything from scratch. I had been trying unsuccessfully in my own little world to cook creative things, but never managed to succeed. Just before we moved out of the apartment I cooked a pan of lasagna that a small army could have feasted on. I thought it edible, but Nick disagreed. We didnt even eat the pieces we had dished out for ourselves, and the rest went in the garbage. I quit getting creative for a while until we were all settled in the new house, when I got it in my head that we should try out our new panini press. Bad idea. I've never had a more horrible sandwich in my life. So, from there, Nick suggested the Sunday night suppers, and kinda took charge. I cant quite remember, but I think the first thing we (he) tried was pork chops of some kind, and they were awesome. The following week Nick cooked again and we had Darlene over and pigged out on barbequed pork ribs...

And this week I decided to take charge. I went and bought all the fresh ingredients for cesar salad, garlic toast, and chicken fettucinni. Boy was that a bad idea.




Looks good right? WRONG. I would have rather eaten my own shoe. If you asked a blind man, my 'homecooked meal' would have been described as tasting similar to chalkboard chalk shredded onto pasta with sandpaper. Yum. The cesar salad wasnt great, and the garlic toast was soggy. So, yet again, another fail for moi. I think I'll continue to let Nick man the barbeque for a while now, and i'll simply stick to the things I know I won't screw up Monday thru Saturday.

A $4,010,314 Miracle...

Telemiracle 34 as always, was a huge success. Year after year, I sit glued to the television for most of the weekend watching great Saskatchewan talent and impressive fundraising. This year I didn’t catch any of the show on Saturday, but you better believe Sunday when I woke up the first thing I did was turn the t.v. to channel 4, and that’s where it stayed until 5:00PM when the telethon ended.


This year, just like every other year, I pledged my donation, and patiently waited for my name to roll across the bottom of the screen. It didn’t (or not that I saw anyway), but I did see a handful of names from Swift Current, and that made me smile. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t give my hard earned money to see my name on t.v., I donate because you never know how it might be able to help you or someone you know in the future. I’m not capable of giving hundreds upon hundreds of dollars, but I admire the people that do. It brings tears to my eyes and a smile to my face hearing the personal bequests to Telemiracle. On Sunday while watching, one particular lady left $600,000 (yes, six hundred thousand dollars) to Telemiracle from her estate. That is simply amazing. She received a standing ovation in her honor, and you better believe I dragged my bum off the sofa to do the same.


Kudos to all the stars that so willingly donate their time to host the show as well. Its not only entertaining to see icons like Beverley Mahood, George Canyon, Bob McGrath, and Brad Johner on stage, but its inspiring as well. They are so kind to give a weekend of their time to travel down to Saskatoon or Regina year after year, to help encourage Saskatchewan residents and businesses to open their hearts and open their wallets for people with mental and physical disabilities. It’s also incredible to see the number of dedicated people in the stands who camp out for the weekend forever chanting “Ring Those Phones!!!” (Believe me, if I could find someone to camp out with, I’d be there too)


Even more impressive, is that the money donated to Telemiracle ends up right back in the community. Quoted from the Telemiracle website: “Combined with previous years’ contributions to Estevan, Yorkton, Lloydminster, Swift Current, Saskatoon and other communities, you can see that Telemiracle dollars reach out to every corner of the province.” Now that is something to be thankful for!


It’s over again for another year, but there will be plenty to look forward to next year, just as always, where you’ll find me in front of the television, teary-eyed, emotional, and totally grateful for the people who dedicate their lives to make other lives better.

On October 24, 2009, I married my best friend and my soul mate. It was a day filled with good friends, love and laughter. We started off with the ceremony, wonderfully given by our Justice of the Peace, Clay. After vows, exchange of rings, kisses, and signing the official documents, we headed out for pictures. Luckily, we had just enough time to squeeze all our shots in before it rained so hard we had to wash the truck in order for me to get out without getting mud on my dress from the country road we had to drive for one of our photo locations. After pictures we headed to Pick-A-Deli for supper, which was incredible. After supper we headed back to the hall for our grand entrance. We listened to a few touching speeches, a few funny jokes, and some entertaining toasts before we kicked off our shoes, and danced the evening away. All in all it was a great day, and I was blessed to have a wonderful wedding party and such great family and friends. Here are a few photos from our big day…
